Designing Your Life for Women : Fall workshop!

By August 11, 2017Classes, Events, Women, workshop

The success of the Designing Your Life for Women workshops this spring and summer has inspired us to offer an additional workshop – Sept 30 – Oct 1, 2017 in beautiful Pacific Grove, CA. Read on for more info and how to register.

We have been blown away by the response to our Designing Your Life for Women series. The workshops in June and July were filled with amazing women from around the world, of all ages and walks of life. Using design thinking tools, design mindsets and radical collaboration, participants supported one another and ideated to help each other get unstuck. Odyssey plans were built and shared, mindfulness was practiced, and rich conversations and laughter filled the room.

During the follow up calls after the April and June workshops, we have heard about women putting their odyssey plans into action – prototyping new careers, artistic pursuits, creating new ways to find meaningful relationships, and so much more. One woman is even trying out living on a houseboat! Alumnae are reframing problems, sharing the workshop ideation techniques with friends, and family and forming partnerships to check in with one another and keep the momentum going after the workshop.

Our goal in holding these workshops is to help women design more fulfilling and coherent lives. We want to jump start the design process for participants, help get people unstuck and create a bias to action. And it’s happening as women embrace prototyping and engage in life wayfinding!

All this goodness has got us on a roll, and we are inspired to continue workshops into the fall.

What do women say about their workshop experience?

“’I’ve been to a lot of retreats and training.  This was the best, most energizing one ever.”

 “I gained knowledge about myself that I never could have gained without the guidance of Kathy and Susan and with the help of 47 other women in our group.  The group exercises were most helpful, because I got ideas from so many women with other walks of life.”

“Thank you for creating an inspiring and impactful experience!”

    Please let me know how this workshop is similar and/or different from the “Design Your Life workshop”

      @Julie
      Both the one day Designing Your Life Workshop and Designing Your Life for Women are great options. Here are the differences:

      • The one day workshop is coed while DYL for women is for women only.
      • DYL for Women is 1.5 days instead of a single day, designed to include more time for discussion and collaboration. The one day workshop is a faster pace, and very high energy.
      • The DYL for women workshop sprung from the observations that Susan and I had that a cohort of all women typically yields a depth of conversation and a willingness to share that is harder to achieve in a coed environment. Women have a slightly different experience of the world than men, and as a result conversations about balance, caregiving vs. demands of work, relationships between individual needs and those of a community or family, energy etc. had a different tenor. We designed the women’s workshop to specifically create space for these conversations.
      • DYL for women includes some short mindfulness and breathing exercises throughout the weekend.
      • DYL for women includes a workbook and a copy of the DYL book.
      • DYL for women is at Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove in September, and Marina Village Conference Center in San Diego in November, while the August one day workshops are in San Francisco.
      • DYL for women is taught by Susan Burnett and Kathy Davies, while the one day SF workshops are taught by Bill and/or Dave.

      We have 2 upcoming DYL for Women workshops: Sept 30- Oct 1 in Pacific Grove, and Nov. 11-12 in San Diego, CA. We have one upcoming one day workshop on Saturday, August 26th in San Francisco.

  • Lynn Marran says:

    What is the makeup currently of the group in terms of age.

    • Kathy Davies says:

      @Lynn Marran
      The workshops typically serve women between the ages of 22 and 80. So we have a wide range! We expect the upcoming workshops to have a strong representation of women mid career, and women considering encore careers, and a smaller group of women in their early career years.
