Workshop Overview:

Spend a day working on the most important design project of all – your life.  This interactive one day workshop, taught by one or both of the co-authors of the book, will walk you through the ideas contained in the New York Time bestseller, Designing Your Life – How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life.  Participants will leave with three Odyssey Plans for their life and a plan to prototype their way to a successful future.  And participants will help each other on their individual and unique journeys toward a well-lived, joyful life.

Who is the Designing Your Life Intensive Workshop for?

This one-day workshop is for a general audience who want to spend a day designing their life and working on their answer to the poet’s eternal question: “…what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”*  People of all ages and life stages can benefit from the ideas and tools presented in the popular book, Designing Your Life – both those approaching a life transition or anyone wanting a more creative approach to their future. Designed for a busy professional, is a nine-hour ‘intense’ workshop that makes the most of our single day together.  The workshop includes instructional presentations, hands-on exercises, and interactions with other participants imagining possibilities for your future. If you like jumping in and trying on new ideas, if you practice the designer’s mindset of Bias-to-Action, this workshop is for you.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

This is an event for professionals who have already started their careers and are looking to optimize their work and their lives.  Typical attendees are in their 20’s-60’s. The minimum age for attendees is 18.

Retreat Overview:

Spend a weekend (1.5 days) working on the most important design project of all – your life.  Taught by Kathy Davies, Managing Director of the Stanford Life Design Lab and Susan Burnett, certified DYL Instructor and longtime industry professional, this retreat is a weekend of learning and practicing ideas and tools contained in the NYT bestselling Designing Your Life, How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life.  You will leave with mindful awareness of where you are right now, new designs for balance and energy, new ways to frame problems you’ve been trying to solve for a while, insights on how to hone your decision making, and three possible future paths – Odyssey Plans – for your life.  You will do all this in a collaborative community of women, helping one another design a unique journey toward a well-lived, joyful life.

The retreat ​​price is $950, but an early bird discounts of $799 is available while quantities last. The following items are included in the price:

  • Breakfast, lunch and a wine and cheese reception on Saturday, breakfast Sunday.
  • Designing Your Life book and a workbook for your exercises and reflections.

Who is the Designing Your Life for Women retreat for?

In order to create a more focused discussion on issues of particular importance to women, the Designing Your Life for Women (DYLW) is limited to women only. You will find women of all ages, backgrounds and career experiences participating in this retreat.  Their common goal is to design a life and career with more joy, purpose and fulfillment.  And they are usually at some kind of crossroad in their life, like starting their first job, or making a mid-career change, or deciding whether to leave or re-enter the workforce, or designing their retirement. The diverse group of women really brings different perspectives which makes the collaboration and community work so well.

Does the retreat include lodging?

No. You are responsible for securing your own lodging. Please see the registration pages for information about hotel options near each venue. Your can also check travel sites, AirBnB and VRBO to find other options.
