As a guest on the lands of the Treaty 7 peoples of Southern Alberta and Métis Nation of Alberta, Districts 5 & 6, Gareth McVicar has had the great privilege over the last 16 years of working with students, faculty and staff to collaboratively create, grow and/or facilitate many of the University of Calgary’s leadership, orientation and student life programs.
From 2013 to 2023, Gareth led the university’s Strengths-Based Campus Program, in which more than 20,000 members of the campus community completed their CliftonStrengths (CS) and learned how to apply their Strengths both inside and outside the classroom. Gareth also had the pleasure of completing the Life Design Studio in December 2021 and loves the way Life Design connects so well with CS and storytelling. You can also find Gareth doing work through his company Spark Coaching & Consulting and teaching a Career Development Foundations course for UCalgary Continuing Education.
When not at work or teaching, Gareth can be found singing and performing, cooking, traveling, and hanging out with Angus, his West Highland Terrier, and volunteering with Angus for Calgary’s Pet Access League Society (PALS).
