Talent Management Leader & Executive Coach

Tom Killen first became interested in careers as a child when he decided he wanted to be a firefighter when he grew up.

Like most people, as he progressed in his education, he became more and more confused about his future career. He finally gave up and went to graduate school to study Industrial-Organizational Psychology and earn a master’s degree at Clemson University. It seemed like the thing to do, and it’s turned out well.

Armed with credentials, he’s practiced talent management in the “real world” for 25 years in large organizations such as Home Depot, Bank of America, and TIAA.

He practices what he calls the “fun part of HR” in the areas of talent management, executive coaching, organizational effectiveness, leadership development, and team effectiveness. Tom likes to learn, and he’s earned both HR certifications (SPHR and SHRM-SCP) and coaching certifications (ICF-ACC).

He’s started businesses twice during his career, and is now the VP, Talent Strategy and Operations at TIAA.

Tom is extremely grateful to have a fulfilling career that, while not a straight path, has enabled him to enjoy a rich life with his family in Charlotte, NC
