I am a career management professional with over 20 years experience in coaching and developing career management programs for students and experienced professionals pursuing career transitions, with a specific expertise in business careers. My approach is to engage individuals and groups to understand themselves and how their skills, values, and interests align with their careers. My goal is to empower individuals to proactively pursue their goals, whatever they may be. As a coach, I use conversation, assessment, exercises, and hopefully some humor to help professionals make their way in the world of work.
I want to support people in shaping their (professional) lives so that they can realise their potential and live a version of their best possible life. After a decade of creative work at university, TV stations and TV production companies, I trained in analytical group work at GAG in Munich from 2006-08. This was followed by further training in systemic coaching, communication, positive psychology and finally certification as a Designing your life coach in 2022. In my interactions with many teams and individuals in profit and non-profit organisations, the defining theme is constant change. Everything is in motion. Everything is in upheaval. Accelerated by AI. The question of identity and personal change has rarely been as fundamental as it is today. It’s about shaping change yourself in order to make the most of it. I invite you to start by reflecting on your skills and beliefs, getting to know your values and driving forces. From this realisation, we can then work together to create your new, contemporary (professional) future.

To not have it all figured out is perfectly natural – and this is a core belief that I bring to my career coaching work. If you feel this way, then perhaps what you need is some clarity. I bring 20 years of work experience, multiple major career changes of my own (banking, nonprofit, consulting, tech sales, and now I work in DEI for a tech company), and an unfiltered challenger mentality to our work together. My clients utilize DYL tools, the Hogan Assessment, and our regular sessions to define what’s important about their lives, their work, and everything in between. I spent 15+ years in leadership roles, growing teams within organizations. In 2008, I shifted into coaching professionally to focus on the part of the work I loved the most. Since then, I have worked one-on-one with more than 500 individual clients to clarify values, increase capacity, improve skills, and become more effective. In addition to my coaching training and Designing Your Life tools, I utilize my master’s degree in conflict resolution, mindfulness training, and positive psychology methods to tailor my approach based on the client’s specific needs. I meet clients where they are, help them conceptualize where they want to go and create a tangible path with specific steps to meet their goals. Through deep listening and curious inquiry, I offer practical support and consistent accountability. I pair insight with action to create measurable change. Clients I work with have an intentional space to reflect and a thought partner available to support and guide the process. I tend to have a sweet spot for people in transition, whether it is a job that’s no longer working, a change in the family, or a personal loss, I find my approach to be particularly helpful for those leaving something behind and walking toward a new future.

I specialize in helping individuals aged 50+ to create uniquely fulfilling “encore careers.” Such career transitions often seek a better balance of sustained income, personal fulfillment, and meaningful social impact. My approach begins with assisting clients to discover their career “true north” and identify opportunities that resonate with their passions, strengths, and stage of life. My own journey started with an MBA from the Harvard Business School, leading to a diverse career spanning international banking, management consulting, entrepreneurship, and C-Suite roles in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. However, rather than retiring, I wished to dedicate the next stage of my life to helping others find and realize their own “impossible” dreams. The result: I’m now living my dream – and love helping others find and live their own!

I help creative professionals negotiating a turning point in their career and life to design their next life their way. They crave something else, but don’t quite know how to go about finding it, or what their options are. All your life you’ve faced and met the expectations of others. Finally, space opens up, external pressures lessen, and you glimpse the opportunity to live for yourself. But what does that mean for you today? I’ve learned that your purpose and priorities take different forms as you evolve. Fulfilment at 25 is not the same as fulfilment at 35 or 55. I believe that to live a creative life, you just need to listen to that small voice inside you saying “there must be something else” and take action. The search for that “something else” has motivated me to become a certified DESIGNING YOUR LIFE coach and life transition coach. Work with me and you’ll come away with a renewed self -belief, a broader sense of your possibilities at this point, and clarity as to what you really want next in life and how to make it work, so you can feel fulfilled and sure of your purpose at last.

I help professionals get moving in their career. I’m your guide to gain confidence and clarity in your path forward with tools from a confidential coaching program. I believe the approach of “everyone before me figured it out on their own, so I can figure it out” is outdated and unnecessarily stressful. I dream of the day when everyone has a “great boss” with plenty of time and skills for career development conversations, but unfortunately we aren’t there yet. I’ve had my own moments rallying my nerve to ask about a promotion. I’ve wrestled with decisions on whether to change departments, or even leave a company. I’ve also held my breath as I released my reliance on technical expertise as my source of credibility, authority, and validation, with blind faith that I’d get them some other way. Looking back, there are insights and skills I wish had developed earlier in my career. That’s why I got certified as a leadership coach, started my business, and wrote a book (“Wallet on the Rental Car Roof: A Guide for Young Professionals Growing their Leadership Skills”.) I’m your guide to feeling excited for your current role and your future career paths.
Hi, I’m Joy and I founded Silver Hair Confidence Coach® to support second-career entrepreneurs through moments of self-doubt, setbacks, and during times when clarity is less than 100%.

I have devoted my academic pursuits, professional career, and volunteer efforts to addressing challenges related to social justice, including discrimination, inequality, and threats to democratic principles. My professional journey spans diverse roles in civil society organizations (2008-2015), the German parliament (2015-2020), and the United Nations (2020-2023), endowing me with a deep insight into the inner workings, processes, and challenges faced by mission-driven leaders and entities.
